Centella Asiatica: The Wonder Plant

Nobody wants to get older or look older. This is the reason why even Eos, the Goddess of the Dawn asked Zeus to grant Tithonus immortal but forgot to mention that he be granted eternal youth.

Eternal youth is the concept of human physical immortality free of aging, and this is where the wonder plant, Centella Asiatica comes into play as the hunt for it goes on.

Centella Asiatica or the wonder plant is a small perennial plant that crawls to grow in a good green spread and has incredible benefits and curing power.

You may call it as Gotu Kola, Asiatic pennywort, Indian pennywort, Indian water navelwort, Brahmi, wild violet, or tiger herb – an ancient healing plant that has stood the test of time for thousands of years.

It is a potential herb that cures not only your skin disorders and other diseases but also can make you look so young with regular intake.

A Ravishing History of Skin Healing

In both ancient India and China, Gotu Kola has long been used in traditional medicines because of its ability to heal wounds, improve mental clarity, and treat skin conditions such as leprosy and psoriasis.

Listen to the video below showcasing how Centella helps in aging skin.

Herbal creams are used for the treatment of psoriasis. Refer here for further reading on figure no.10.

Centella Asiatica occupies a central point in Ayurvedic medicines in India. It is used to treat infected wounds, lupus, syphilis, eczema, and female disorders.

It contains saponin, which is a powerful antioxidant. Gotu kola’s powerful antioxidant is good as an anti-aging product.

It tightens your skin and makes it firmer which reduces the visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

The antioxidants in Gotu Kola helps to protect the skin from further damage due to environmental factors like pollution and bacteria.

England is known to have used it as one of her earliest treatments for leprosy and also the cure for diarrhea, dysentery, fever including female issues like infertility.

Cosmetics and pharmaceutical companies have started taking a keen interest in the wonder plant. Note here, that it drastically reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

In Thailand, Centella Asiatica is taken and drunk as a cold beverage and appraised as a turn-back-the-clock health tonic.

Inclusion of 3 or more leaves of the herb during mealtime is considered a grand feast in Japan.

Not only preventing blemishes of the skin, but it also stops scar tissues from forming and propagating further which is a great relief for acne patients.

Share the information that this herb helps in strengthening and growing hair follicles and also elongating the growth of nails, and thank me later.

Enhances Longevity and Brain Function

Look at this man. His is a fantastic picture not from the appearance point of view, but the AGE behind!

How old do you think is this guy? What’s his name? What are the diets he takes?

Li Ching Yuen.jpg

This man is the famous Li Ching Yuen! (1677-1933, disputed record)

Li Ching Yuen was quite an extraordinary man. He spent most of his life in the mountains and included a ton of herbs in his diet like goji berry, Lingzhi, wild ginseng, and Gotu Kola, the wonder plant.

The surprising fact is that he lived for 256(though debatable with 197) years as a Chinese herbalist through the Qigong province, and Gotu Kola was his favorite.

In 1928, a ‘New York Times’ correspondent wrote that many of the old men in Li’s neighborhood asserted that their grandfathers knew him when they were boys and that he at that time was a grown man.

This may sound ridiculous and unbelievable but you know, it’s been skeptically taken to be true!

Such is the power of the wonder plant/Centella Asiatica. Using it with heart and soul backed by unwavering faith can bring miracles in your life too.

This is the reason why Gotu Kola is among the list of the ‘miracle elixirs of life’.

Have a good look at how it healthily grows in my courtyard protruding through the boulders.

Increases Cognitive Function

Another interesting fact of the wonder plant is its ability to increase nearly every aspect of mental functioning and finds its leanings on memory domains.

Gotu Kola makes it ideal for anyone looking for a cognitive boost without any of the unwanted and balancing side effects of stimulants.

A recent study for one whole year in children showed that taking half a gram of Gotu Kola extract powder every day demonstrated significant improvement of their intellectual level – and much more on the memory domain.

This amazing herb is reported to have the ability to kill cancer and also slows down the rate of tumor growth.

Holy Moly, what am I reading?

Is this a Fairy Tale?

No!

It has high concentrations of triterpene, amino acids, flavonoids, and sugars. These constituents allow a wide variety of skin benefits such as:

  • anti-aging,
  • moisturizing, and
  • skin soothing properties.

Centella Asiatica also contains Madecassoside, a skincare ingredient. For this reason, its extract is also referred to as Gotu Kola extract.

The benefits of Gotu Kola is unimaginable and more investigation is going on. It provides strong anti-aging benefits due to its ability to intrinsically protect skin molecules from degradation.

As a result, the infused products of this herb potentially work to prolong the skin’s youthful appearance.

Application of the herb’s products can also help support skin barrier function. This, in turn, improves moisture-retention in the skin and induces a soothing effect.

With its benefits combined, Centella Asiatica is a viable ingredient to alleviate skin dryness, while also enhancing the skin’s overall quality and appearance.

It makes you look vibrant and doubly younger. Wow, what the heck of herb is this miracle?!

The German Health Ministry along with the WHO has declared it to be anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-convulsant, immunostimulant, cardioprotective, antidiabetic and the list goes on.

How to Use Gotu Kola?

You can intake Gotu Kola as a tea or simply eat it raw. To boil it and drinking its soup gives an amazing taste. You can also include it in your salad as the main ingredient.

This means you are FREE to apply any method the way you like. However, cooking can lead to the loss of essential vitamins and antioxidants. The best practice is to take it raw.

It also comes in tablet forms and through topical application of Gotu kola creams. You may be surprised to know that there are more than 2500 phytonutrients found in the herb.

Phytonutrients protect you against chronic degenerative disorders and also function as antioxidants boosting your immune system.

In terms of the right dosage, when applying it topically it is best to use 90 milligrams and below per day.

What do I do?

3 fresh leaves of this amazing plant along with a large mug of lukewarm water in the empty stomach just after toothbrush every morning make my day energized and refreshed.

Below is the snapshot of how I take it each day.

Thank you for leaving your comment.

  2. Hey,
Thanks for this nice post. I cannot believe what this magical plant can do! When I was reading about “Li Ching Yuen”, I thought it was some kind of lie, but I look it up and I could not believe this MAN LIVED FOR 256 YEARS!
I mean, how is that even possible?! I think I am going to give the wonder plant a try (haha).

    Thanks,
    Stefano.

    • Exactly, I too couldn’t believe the years he had lived that long with the intake of the herb.

I have never heard of this plant before and your in-depth analysis of its makeup and benefits are very appealing.

Not sure what to think about the old guy, do we want to live that long?
He must have heard every joke and known every punch line!

    • The old guy ate Centella Asiatica as one of his favorite food menus which may seem unbelievable.

He did live that long to the surprise of many of his elderly neighbors.

  4. Wow, I’d never heard of GOTA KOLA before!

Good informative post Phomrong, I’ll be on the lookout for some of Gota Kola. It looks very similar to the watercress we get here in Britain.

    • An exciting comment. Gotu Kola and Watercress have many similarities and look almost alike. But the botanical name of the latter is called Nasturtium officinale and is semi-aquatic and also packed with nutrients.

But Gotu Kola is called Centella Asiatica and grows on land even in the drier ground.

Kindly try if you can get a few samples – it’s a wonderful plant.

      Thanks for your comment.
      Wishing you all the best.
